A few days ago I was flipping through TV channels when ABC’s 20/20 caught my attention. The topic: a tongue patch diet for weight loss. I thought it was a year’s end joke, but no, they really discussed an unusual and a fairly barbaric and a controversial weight loss procedure.
In the US this represents a new and painful way to fast track your way into a smaller size. It is called the tongue patch diet and it seems to be one of the most extreme “weight loss diets” yet.
This procedure / surgery has been popular in Venezuela for quite some time and it has been launched in the US (where else but Beverly Hills) by Dr. Nikolas Chugay, a plastic surgeon.
The $2000.00 procedure that takes about 10 minutes, entails sewing a plastic mesh onto the tongue with 6 stitches. The patch and the stitches makes eating solid food very painful. Even one morsel of solid food will in a stabbing pain. The motivation is fear of pain!
The patients are forced to resort to a very strict and restrictive liquid diet of 800 calories developed by Dr. Chugay and a 45 minute exercise every day.
On the average patients lose 18 – 20 pounds in a month and keep their weight loss for about 8 months.
Respectable weight loss experts, including Dr. Robert Huizenga from Biggest Loser, agree that this draconian measure is of little value to the dieter over the long term. According to Dr. Huizenga and all research on weight loss suggests that there is no evidence that withholding food for one month will produce any sustainable results over 1, 2 or 3 years.
Most extreme dieters who lose weight rapidly will eventually regain all the weight and plus some, back.
Tongue Patch Causes Weight Loss
By Making It Painful To Eat
Tongue patch diet is indeed an extreme way to lose weight. The same results can be easily obtained by other, less drastic methods. For example the Fat Flush Plan by nutritionist Anne Gittleman, allows one to reach such results (and even better) painlessly and naturally with good food and delicious smoothies. I’ll be writing about it in my next article so watch out for it.
Let me know what you think of this crazy tongue patch diet. Would you do it?
