It is the beginning of a brand new year and many people are all hyped up to make 2014 the best year yet. Most of us make new year resolutions to help us start the year in a new direction and change or improve our personal lives. Unfortunately, life goes on and before we know it we will be back following the same old paths as we did in the previous year. Changes, especially those pertaining to weight loss, healthier eating and fitness are often challenging but feeding your mind with positive and motivational thoughts will help you overcome those challenges.
To help you stay on track I compiled a few inspirational quotes for weight loss that will boost your motivation each time you read them. Finding inspiration is a powerful way to keep the momentum going. I hope you enjoy the quotes and may 2014 be the best year for you!
1. People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Neither does bathing… that’s why we recommend it daily… ~Zig Ziglar
Zig Ziglar was one of the greatest motivational speakers and he knew what he was talking about. Motivation does not last and you need to remind yourself often to stay motivated. Reading the following quotes daily could be a life changer for you.
2. One small positive thought in the morning can change the perspective of your entire day ~Unknown
Wake up with positive thought in your mind. When you feel good first thing in the morning you will feel this way the whole day. When you wake up grumpy or if you begin to problems as soon as you wake up, the problems and the grumpiness will affect your whole day. If you will think of pleasant things before you go to sleep, you will usually wake up refreshed and happy and stay that way the whole day.
3. If you want to fly, give up everything that weighs you down ~Toni Morrison
Our lives are pretty chaotic as we juggle family and careers. There are so many burdens we have to carry. If you find that something could be gotten rid off, chuck it. You don’t need to prove that you are a superwoman or a superman. You need to lighten your load and find some time for yourself.
4. Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me ~Carol Burnett
You are the only one that can change your life or parts of your life you are not happy with. No one else is responsible for it. You need to take ownership of what displeases you and change it. Of course, you should surround yourself with people that support you and encourage you. But in the end, the responsibility is yours. You can do it!
5. Dreams are the seeds of change. Nothing ever grows without a seed, and nothing ever changes without a dream ~Debby Boone
Every new accomplishment and every change begins with a dream. Most of us have dreams to accomplish something but unless you take action to fulfill your dream, whatever you are dreaming about will only remain wishful thinking. You need to take action and definite steps to make your dream a reality.
6. Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it ~Julia Child
When you are passionate about doing something, just the thought about it keeps you excited. Take some time for yourself and immerse yourself into something you love to do. You’ll never feel bored again, on the contrary, you’ll likely feel very energetic and even happy. When you are passionately interested in doing something, emotional eating will become the thing of the past. And, if you love cooking, go for it. Cooking is just as creative and imaginative an activity as painting, or wood carving, or music…
7. The tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach ~Benjamin Mays
Make sure you have goals and that they are written down so you can evaluate them on regular basis. Without written goals it is like setting sails with no destination. “Written goals have a way of transforming wishes into wants; can’ts into cans; dreams into plans; and plans into reality. Don’t just think it – ink it!” ~Unknown
8. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action ~Napoleon Hill
Without a plan of action you will not succeed. Whether your goal is to lose weight, get fit and healthy, eating better or anything else, if you do not have a step by step plan on how you are going to achieve your goals, nothing will happen. You’ll be starting over next year. To succeed, keep a long term plan and a short term plan. As well make sure to document your every accomplishment towards achieving your plans and goals.
9. Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tip toe if you must, but take the step… ~Unknown
The biggest mistake people make is that they set up their goals in such a way that they seem overwhelming. Suppose you want to lose 50 pounds. That may seem almost unreachable, especially after a few weeks when you begin to lose weight in smaller increments. So you throw up your hands in disgust and give up. On the other hand if you said to yourself that you only want to lose 5 pounds per month that would seem like a very easily attainable goal. In 10 months you would lose 50 pounds. During the 10 months your weight loss goal would never seem unreachable and you would never stress. As well, because you would be relaxed about your weight loss, you’d likely lose more than 5 pounds.
10. Some people succeed because they are destined to, but most because they are determined ~Unknown
As Mario Andretti said: “Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” You need to be determined and you need to be committed to achieve your goals (any goals, including weight loss). Sometimes it may seem like hard work, but in the end end it is always worth it.
A Bonus Inspirational Quote
11. There are 7 days per week, Someday is not one of them ~Rita Chand
Do you ever get wrapped up in thinking “someday” or “tomorrow” or “next Wednesday or any other day of the week” but not today. This type of thinking actually prevents you from doing what you want to do and it prevents you from making your dreams a reality. This type of thinking is nonproductive and it robs you of opportunities. Because there is no “Someday” in the calendar, the list of things you want to do someday remains a figment of your imagination for a very long time. The list hardly ever gets done. Did you notice that? This year banish the word Someday from your vocabulary and replace it with Today!
Whether you want to lose weight, eat healthier or exercise more as part of your new year resolutions, make sure to keep it simple and introduce healthier options into your life gradually in order not to get overwhelmed and break your promises to yourself.
